Meet Andy Jones
Meet Andy Jones
Andy Jones is Cerule’s lead harvester and has been with this company for over 22 years. We are extremely grateful to have him on the team as he has been instrumental in the company’s evolvement and success.
We wanted to share a little bit about Andy with you, so we had a short interview with him to hear how his experience with Cerule has been:
Q: Andy, can you briefly explain what it is you do here at Cerule?
A: I am the manager of the algae harvest. That entails working with the crew, overseeing the algae harvest, bringing it to the cove so it can be transported to Keno. I am also involved with repairing and keeping all of the equipment up to date on a daily basis. There is a lot of equipment, and keeping it all up to date is critically important for our success.
Q: How long have you been with Cerule?
A: Well as long has Howard Newman has been here. I was the first group to come on board. It has to be at least 22 years.
Q: We would love to hear from you about how this company has evolved, and what you see happening now, opposed to before?
A: Well, it has grown a lot! We get a lot more algae now. We have a lot more harvest equipment. John Bowers (Cerule’s Engineering & Fabrication Manager) has made the dryers more efficient and easier to use for the team.
In the beginning we would haul the harvested algae in 4 gallon buckets. We would load them from the lake, onto a flatbed truck and take them out to the freezer. All of these still in the 4 gallon buckets. We would then need to transport them from the freezer to the dryers – well you could imagine, a lot of the buckets would spill over, and cause a big mess, but even worse, we would lose the algae.
Where as now, we can store the algae on the Tulana, we have transport boats, milk trucks that will take it to our Keno Drying facility, and we have totes that hold roughly 250 gallons (a lot better than 4 gallon buckets!).
So the company has evolved quite a bit.
Q: What do you like most about your job, and about Cerule?
A: The Trust. We have a lot of freedom to do what we need to do. The executives know that we know how to do it best. I appreciate the freedom.
The few of you that came out on the Klamath Falls Trip were able to meet Andy, so we know you understand just how valuable he is to our team! Thank you Andy for all you’ve done, and continue to do for Cerule!
